The Project - Aberdeen Recycling and Energy
We are working to deliver an ambitious project to fulfil the requirements of the Scottish Government's Zero Waste Plan. The proposed development is a joint project between Aberdeen City Council, Aberdeenshire Council and The Moray Council and aims to provide a long term solution for non-recyclable waste produced in the north east of Scotland.
From 1 January 2021, Scottish Councils will be banned from putting any biodegradable municipal waste into landfill. In Aberdeen and the north east region, we currently send almost half of our household waste to landfill, so we have to find an alternative strategy.
The joint residual waste solution proposed seeks to use non-recyclable waste to generate heat and power for homes and businesses in Aberdeen.
A site at Greenbank Crescent in East Tullos has been identified for this facility in the Aberdeen Local Development Plan.
